Boxing Music

Graham here…. Not gonna lie… it was a rough day. Ever had one of those days when everything goes wrong and it seems like you’re an alien on this planet and your family knows you’re not one of them? Well anyway, it felt kind of like that.

So after a long day of “working from home” at the ski lodge while my girls hit the slopes, we finally made it home. And here’s the real miracle. After this tough, horrible, edgy day, where I just didn’t fee like myself and tensions were running high… I made it back home to beautiful 60 degree weather.

Now, to qualify this, we live in Oregon and it’s January. We only know Cold. So to return from the snow-capped Mt Hood at 35 degrees and get back home to 60 degrees in the darkness of 8:30pm…. Well, my good friend, this was a true gift from God. So what would you do with such a gift? That’s right… time for boxing in the backyard.

I raced inside to change into my Nike dry fit gear and tore back down to the ground level to plug in the backyard lights. You’ve really gotta see these babies to appreciate them. I strung two long sets of old school vintage bulbs along my deck railing and ran them down the stairs to the daylight basement level to illuminate the underside of the deck as well. And what is down there on the backyard level? Oh yes… the 100lb Everlast heavy bag.

Now remember, it’s Oregon, where there’s rain a’plenty. And even though I outfitted this heavy bag with a plastic top cover, I somehow feel like it’s gained a good 15lbs of water weight somehow. But, no matter. I got outside, wrapped my paws, and (before I gloved up) I fired up Murph Workout Radio on my iPhone. It's the best free workout music. It’s one thing to get warmed up with a jump rope session and a series of burpees… but if you’re really gonna turn on the juice, you’re gonna need some music motivation to keep you going. So I fired up Murph Radio and I hear “A negative mental attitude can only bring you failure…” and then, “I choose not to be a common man…” and “Always set your standards high”…….. and this intense beat was on fire just below the voices….. and then I was on fire too.

Jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab… now right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross, right cross… left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook, left hook… and now back to the right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand, right hand!

Ten each, now altogether! 1-2-3-4! Again… 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4! Breath…. Stick and move, stick and move…..

What a great session… an hour in the Oregon darkness underneath my deck… Costco lights providing a perimeter… and just beating the hell out of my Everlast heavy bag with Murph Workout Radio blasting away in the misty night air. Good times! I'm so thankful for this free workout music service!
